Can I cut on my granite countertop?
Only if you want to ruin your expensive knives. Granite surfaces are harder than your knife blades and will dull them very quickly, if you use your countertop as a cutting surface, always cut and chop on a wooden or plastic cutting board place on top of your granite surface.

How easily can granite countertops be damaged?
Like any solid surface, high impact blows will likely cause harm to your granite counters. Because of its crystalline structure, it can chip if subjected to sharp hard objects. If left unsealed, granite can also absorb stains, which can lead to darkened areas or discoloration. Under normal circumstances, heat from your pots and pans or burning liquids will not affect granite.

Will my granite kitchen counters have tiny pits on the surface?
Technically, yes. Although unless you look closely, you don’t see them on larger pieces because the granite surface is polished to a mirror-like finish.

Granite, which is crystalline in structure, has tiny pits, which are spaces between the mineral crystals. Granite has natural fissures as well, which may have the appearance of cracks, but are not defects. Thes fissures are naturally occurring, and the result of the heat and pressure under which granite is formed. These characteristics of natural granite stone contributes to the beauty and will not impair the durability of granite surfaces.
